What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside it.

In endometriosis, this tissue, called endometrial-like tissue, can grow on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and other organs in the pelvis. It can cause pain, especially during periods, and may lead to fertility issues. This misplaced tissue acts like uterine lining, breaking down and causing inflammation, scar tissue, and sometimes cysts. Although the exact cause of endometriosis is unknown, treatments can help manage symptoms and improve fertility outcomes.
