What happens after eggs have been collected for IVF with ICSI?

In order to perform ICSI we need to complete a process we call denudation which involves removing the nursing cells that surround the eggs to allow us to assess them in more detail. We do this because we can only perform ICSI using mature eggs as these are the eggs that are capable of fertilisation. When we know how many eggs are mature we inject them with a single sperm under the microscope. Following injection the eggs are placed back inside the incubator and they are not looked at until the following morning.
